Our Small Group Leaders are incredible servants of Christ.  It is our desire to prepare our leaders with spiritual strategies, biblical tools and practical lessons that equip them to be effective in ministry.

Small Groups are designed to help people care for one another and share the love of Christ with one another as well as the community at a minimum of twice a month.

  • It’s where we build family, relationships and a sense of belonging.
  • It’s where we have lots of fun, become a refuge from the world and pray for each other.
We ask about one another’s quiet times in the Word.  It’s also where we ask our friends to have a personal bible study.

Developing Objectives for Your Group (Session 1)

What is the mission statement of the SCC?

What is the purpose of our small groups?

What is an objective?  What is a goal?  How can you use goals and objectives to move your small group forward?

Describe in a picture what you want your small group to look like in three months.

What does it mean to "Care for People?"  How does your group put this into practice?

Example:

Start Date: March 1

What does the group want to become:  In 3 months, we would like to see our small group become more evangelistic.

As a Leader I will take these steps:  Get input from my small group, Do more evangelistic lessons, intiate prayer time with the small group specifically about bringing friends, be an example of bringing friends, inspire each other to reach out by meeting at the mall and sharing our faith.

Ending Date: June 1

Spokane Christian Church Internship Moving Forward

Tim DeWolf / Ministry Intern (2010)

I used to work at Helly Hansen twenty-five hours a week while going to school full time at EWU. My philosophy and my joy was to give to God the time that I was able to give to serve others through bible studies, leading, organizing and planning. God has continued to move in my life in amazing ways that leave me in awe. Through the years I have been humbled to be given the call to lead a small group, help shepherd the campus ministry and to now be serving on staff as an intern. None of this is to my credit but God asking me to go in his strength (1Peter 4:11).

My eyes have been opened to see what the Peacock’s do to lead the church here in Spokane. It has been such a joy and opportunity for Heidi and I to be able to help serve alongside the Peacocks. I helped lead the Spread the Word campaign, logistically finding out how we can accomplish the goal, printing maps, emailing small group leaders, and communicating the plan to the church and asking God through prayer to bless the effort to reach a community in need. I was able to help Jen Quaschnick with the Harvest Party on October 31st. I was responsible to make sure all the volunteers knew where they were going. I’ve since learned the ways to send emails to large groups, and how to manage 50 responses and personal requests. One of my favorite parts of the internship is Staff Meetings. The four of us are building such a strong friendship and partnership in the gospel.

Written by Bryce Biggerstaff:

What is an Usher? Good question, an Usher is one who, in every sense of the word takes a person or people from one place, and guides them to another. Practically speaking, when you are an Usher, especially at church, you are taking people from their lives outside the churches walls, and seating them in the house of God. The Usher is the first person one sees when entering into the church, and the mood you share with those people is the mood they are going to feel when walking into the sanctuary. Ushers take care of the families needs during church, whether it be a chair to sit on, a glass of water, or simply a warm smile as you pass by.

As an Usher, one is involved in preparing, and participating in communion. Not only are you passing the trays while others pray and partake of the bread and the juice, but again, you help set the tone by being that joyful and calming presence as this takes place. You are the unseen servant, cleaning up the sanctuary after all have gone, setting up chairs before service, passing out event sheets, washing dishes, guiding visitors to the right small group leader, and closing up the church long after the joyful tones of the celebration of Sunday service have passed. You serve because that is what you were made to do and you take great joy in it, more so when it goes unnoticed. Ushers share the love of Christ with visitors and Disciples alike and do it with genuine joy and passion because that is what we are called to do. One does not become an Usher for recognition and glory, one becomes an Usher to give recognition and glory to God, the one who truly deserves these things.

How can you serve?

  • Help Prepare Communion
  • Greet People with a warm hug or smile as the enter the building
  • Direct Traffic (help people to their seats, let guests know where children's classes are etc.)
  • Silently pray for each person as you see them
